 HEALTH NEWS

Acetaminophen induced liver disease in some has stirred a new FDA probe. However, it must be noted that the recent findings are for the most part due to overdose. We who are accustomed to prescription medications may often overlook the dangers of taking over the counter medications along with our prescription drugs.

Before taking an over the counter pain medication, always check first with your prescribing physician for any possible dangers. Especially if the drug you've been prescribed contains acetaminophen (TYLENOL). For more information about the recent problems.. [click here]

Water -- is it the answer? Or is this just another fad? The following article, taken from the web, is quite interesting, however it's validity is yet to be proven.

According to Dr. Batmanghelidj, ``The body is 75% water and the brain is 85% water, yet few people replace it adequately or consistently.'' He adds, ``Americans consume coffee and soft drinks when they are thirsty, yet these fluids cause further dehydration. This water shortage in the body will manifest in a variety symptoms, signals and complications now labeled as diseases.''

Dr. Batmanghelidj first realized the importance of water as a political prisoner in his native Iran. He found that he was able to treat the pain of a fellow prisoner's peptic ulcer with water. He subsequently treated 3,000 more ulcer sufferers -- his findings on the medical efficacy of water were published in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology and the New York Times ``Science Watch.''

Dr. Batmanghelidj can discuss:
  • How chronic, unintentional dehydration is the root cause of myriad diseases.
  • How to treat disease and eliminate pain including; heartburn, back pain, arthritis, migraine headaches naturally!
  • Testimonials from physicians and lay people on astounding recoveries from increased water intake.
  • How SALT can be used as a medication.
  • Why so called "bad" cholesterol is actually a life saving element of the body.
  • Pennsylvania Auto Parts Dealer, Bob Butts, who has contributed $300,000 of his own money to advertise and educate the public on the amazing benefits of Water -- without making a penny in return.

The treatment of post-surgical pain has not improved in the U.S. in recent years, despite the growing recognition of adequate pain relief as a fundamental patient right. The current limitations of acute pain management and possible improvements were the focus of a meeting held in conjunction with the International Anesthesia Research Society 75th Clinical and Scientific Congress. .January Member of the Month
Judaba (JJ), was nominated by members of CPSG and voted to be January's mebmer of the month by moderators and Staff volunteers.

JJ has been a member of CPSG since 12/19/1999. She is a '40ish' wife to Tom and mother of two (daughter Kelly, 23, and son, Kevin, 17). JJ and her family reside in Wisconsin.

Not at all a stranger to pain, JJ's troubles started when she was 18. This early pain increased after her daughter, Kelly, was born. However, a fall off the porch in 1990, led to her daily chronic pain. After the fall, doctors ran tests which diagnosed JJ with degenerative arthritis in her lower back, lumbar spine, right hip and knee, and rheumatoid arthritis. Over the years she has also endured IBS, Ulcers, Adult ADD, Bipolar, CDS, DDD.

Like many pain sufferers, JJ, continued to work full time for 10 years after her pain began. Although her Doctors advise her to not re-enter the workforce, JJ still prays this will happen one day.

Non-pharmacuetical treatments JJ has tried are: Physical Therapy, Heated Pool therapy, and exercise. None of these have had lasting results. Curtently she uses methadone and Neurontin to combat pain. Even with these meds her pain stays in the pain level range of 4-6 with time where it climbs to the 8-10 level range.

JJ found CPSG when she was reading about methadone on another forum at Delphi. She states that what keeps her coming back to CPSG is the people. We at CPSG are lucky to have JJ as a member. It's people like her that keep us all coming back.

JJ we're glad you found us. Your active participation in our group and your caring, helping nature have helped to make CPSG the type of group it is.
