Scientists at the American Cancer Society (ACS) are studying skin patches containing marijuana to see if they can ease cancer pain. If successful, the patch could be used to deliver controlled doses of cannabinoids through the skin. Barb is still recovering from being quite ill and from a long stay in the hospital. She came home last weekend and we all hope she gets to stay there! If you'd like to leave a message for Barb on the message board welcoming her back to her 2nd home, her screen name is "Babbs1".

Starhawk is going through a very difficult and scary time right now. Her doctor wants her to go to Stanford or UCLA to see if the right diagnosis can be found. In the meantime she is continuing to get worse each year. Even with the pump implant, there's not been the increased level of functionality that was hoped for. Since Starhawk isn't fully diagnosed, it makes it that much more frightening. Star... you have all our support!! [Read More]

Scratch has been battling some unrelenting pain for over two weeks now. Scratch suffers with severe DDD, a partially crushed sciatic nerve and an accompanying nerve bundle, as well as osteoarthritis. [Read More]

Uni's mother-in-law passed away U within days of the death of her grandmother-in-law. Our condolences to Uni, Steve and their children, during their time of sorrow. Uni & Steve, we all want you to know that we're here for you.

Laurie passed away January 24 U After a valiant battle with cancer, Laurie died peacfully in the hospital surrounded by her family. Although we were all saddened by this loss, we know that Laurie is no longer in pain. 

We were all comforted by the visit of Laurie's fiance Sean, Aunt Jill, and her daughters at the wake held on-line, Tuesday evening, 1/25.  Several candles have been lit in Laurie's honor on our Heart Light candles page.

Nanianne one of our members from down under, gave birth to twins Sunday, January 16, 2000. A girl, Brianna Clodagh McLaughlan O'Connell, born at 5:27am, weighed 6.3kg, and has what the doctor calls a "heart flutter". And a boy, Malachy Dairmuid McLaughlan O'Connell, born at 5:19am, weighed 6.7kg, and the doctor says he's in great health.

Meaning of the names

Brianna:

Queen of Ireland

Clodagh:

A river in Tipperary, Ireland

Malachy:

Servant of St Secundinus

Dairmuid:

Freeman

McLaughlan:

Father's last name (Nanianne wanted gave her last name for the babies).

Free to all members.  You can sign up for an email account on the CPSG home page.  The email account comes with a calendar that's really cool.  Both the email and the calendar have options to send notifications to ICQ. Since this is a new email system you should have a better chance of selecting the username you want (without those pesky numbers after it). Your email address will look like this:

Web Site News - We now have a domain name for our web site. This gives us a greater presence on the web. The domain name is:

We were lucky that the name was still available. The site has undergone a major face lift and revisions to the content. Be sure to check out the Health News page and the Pain Causes page..they've both had quite a bit added to them. Click here to visit the web site.

Chronic Pain Book Store &
Our Book Store is now divided into four sections so that it's easier to find the book you're looking for.

If you have a book to recommend for our store, send an email with the title and author.  Also, if you'd like to submit a book review on a chronic pain book... or a really great book that took your mind off your pain, we'll publish it in our book store web pages. Earlier Chat Time. Have you noticed that our evening chats now start at 9pm ET? If not, then you've missed a whole hour of fun ... join us at 9 next time.


New Chat! We now have a support chat for those who would like to loose weight and are disabled or have limited mobility. It's called "LBs Off".   The chats are every Sunday, 8-9:30pm. If you're late and the room is locked, send a private message to SunE1 by typing:

Once you've attended the chat and decide you'd like to join the LBs Off group, you'll be given access to a private area on our message board just for those who want support in loosing weight.


New Mod! KayDances has agreed to become a moderator full time! Kay has been a host of several of our Monday topic chats and did a fantastic job. We're thrilled that she agreed to become a moderator! Join me in thanking her in her new role. 


Dragonrider has been hosting special story time chats that have been a HUGE success. This type of chat is where one person starts off a story and everyone else in the chat picks it up and adds to it.
